BEING LESS STUPID #16 - Homeschooling
Picture Book Biographies | Five questions to help you have conversations with kids about books
👋 Hello
This is our first week of homeschooling for our son. My view of homeschooling was individual attention for faster and better education. I have already come to realize that is not what homeschooling is all about.
What is most important and valuable about the home as a base for children's growth into the world, is not that it is a better school than the schools, but that it isn't a school at all. - Cait(My-Little-Poppies.com)
The best thing we can do for our kids is to help them grow up to be curious and lifelong learners. We can help them to be independent thinkers and follow their dreams in creative ways.
Schools tell us that fun is a waste of time, that learning should be serious. The opposite is what kids want. They want to learn but in a fun way.
"I have no special talent. I am only passionately curious." Albert Einstein
Learning should be fun and joyful. By modeling joyful curiosity, we can teach them to be lifelong learners.
"What we learn with pleasure, we never forget." - Alfred Mercier
With this mindset shift, I want to follow my son’s own curiosity and find ways to teach things playfully. I will forego the strict daily schedule and have fun teaching him and learning along with him. My goal is to help him “learn how to learn” and create an environment of exploration.
